Thank you for stopping by my website. My name is Leah Holmes, and I am a Lampwork Bead Artist here in Mississippi where I run my own glass studio, Leah Holmes Studio Designs. Flameworking is my absolute passion: it is the most exciting, challenging, and unique form of self expression that I've ever experienced. Stylistically, my beads are big, bold, bumpy, funky and "In your face, Grace," so they are not for wallflowers or those who prefer dainty designs! I think my pieces speak loudest to those who simply love glass--its coldness against the skin, its different shapes and angles, its texture of bumpiness, and the powerful designs made possible by a generous amount of surface area. It is my hope that my excitement for this particular artistic medium reveals itself in every single bead of every piece of jewelry that I make.
I work with both soft (soda lime) and hard (boroscilicate) glasses in the creation of my bead designs. The Studio is stocked with a wide color pallet, and all of my creations leave the flame of my Nortel Minor torch and go directly into a digital kiln where they anneal at 940 degrees until hardened.
Also an English Instructor, I'm in the process of streamlining my company quite a bit so as to better suit my busy life and responsibilities. Part of that streamling means that I am no longer accepting bead orders or custom orders for jewelry from individuals: instead, please find my items for sale at The Bead Shak in Long Beach, MS; at Hillyer House in Ocean Springs, MS; at the New Orleans Art Museum in Louisiana; and here on my website, when I have the inventory. Your purchases here will be completed through PayPal so that your transaction is secure.
Again, thank you for your interest in my beads. I am, at this time, wrapping up 2008 bead orders in anticipation of several new, exciting projects (wine glasses, candle sticks--even a small chandelier!) that I'll embark upon starting in January 2009. Please check back soon to see how it's all going!
Sincerely,
Leah Preble Holmes, PhD-abd
Together with DH, (darling husband) Michael.
